The dot SE country-code top-level domain was launched in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration process was quite restrictive, so a very low number of domains were acquired. Individuals were allowed to order no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was compulsory, i.e. merely Swedish individuals, firms and organizations could get a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened notably and, accordingly, the number of .SE domains has been growing each year.
